New Warhammer 40K Models Revealed for Marneus Calgar and the Ultramarines

Games Workshop has revealed new Warhammer 40K models for Marneus Calgar and the Ultramarines. Here’s a first look and what they mean for the game.

If you didn’t already feel old as a fan of Warhammer 40K, the latest release of Marneus Calgar and several of his Ultramarines companions will probably do the trick.

My first reaction was, unfortunately, “Wait, they’re giving him another new model?”

Then I realized Calgar’s last miniature dropped in 2018. Sigh.

While that still feels like a quick turnaround compared to other factions, Space Marines have always been Games Workshop’s bread and butter. When they dominate the lore, the tabletop, and the company’s revenue, it’s not surprising that Ultramarines get the spotlight again.

Marneus Calgar Returns in Terminator Armor

Calgar’s new miniature is exciting for a few reasons, but the biggest change is the return of his iconic Terminator plate. His last sculpt had him locked into Gravis armor, tying him to similar units on the table. Now, with his classic Terminator armor restored, the Chapter Master of the Ultramarines feels thematically back where he belongs—alongside the Victrix Honor Guard.

This shift isn’t just cosmetic. Terminator plate opens up more flexible tabletop options and puts him back into a role that resonates with long-time Ultramarines fans.

New Victrix Honor Guard Miniatures

And speaking of the Victrix Honor Guard—we’re finally getting new models for them too. Better yet, they no longer need to be tethered directly to Calgar. This is easily one of the best parts of the announcement.

The Victrix Honor Guard have always had some of the most beloved lore and sculpts in the Ultramarines range. The fact that players couldn’t field them outside of Calgar’s command was limiting. Now, with stand-alone models and updated sculpts, the Honor Guard return with a vengeance.

And let’s be honest—they might just have the best banner in the entire game. Sorry, Blood Angels and Dark Angels fans.

Cato Sicarius Joins the Update

Games Workshop also revealed a new model for Cato Sicarius, Captain of the Victrix Honor Guard. It’s a natural pairing—after all, how could you bring back the Victrix without Sicarius himself?

The model looks fantastic and has already been well received by the community. It should inject new life into a faction that’s been defined almost exclusively by Calgar and Roboute Guilliman for years. With Sicarius stepping back into the spotlight, Ultramarines players finally have some variety in their character choices again.

What This Means for Ultramarines on the Tabletop

Based on prior release patterns, it may be a little while before these models hit shelves. Still, assuming their rules are even half-decent, this feels like a slam dunk from GW.

Ultramarines have been in a bit of a rut, and their last big update—Tyrannic War Veterans in 9th Edition—didn’t quite deliver. This time, the combination of new sculpts and fresh datasheets could make a real difference.

  • Victrix Honor Guard are likely to land somewhere between Inner Circle Companions and Sanguinary Guard. Expect solid damage output, with defensive rules like a -1 to hit or wound, reflecting their elite station and role.

  • Marneus Calgar will almost certainly maintain some control over the Command Point economy, but GW may tweak his datasheet to avoid overlap with Guilliman.

  • Cato Sicarius feels destined to be a melee-focused “blender” character, ideally pairing with a six-man squad of his Honor Guard for maximum thematic impact.

Final Thoughts

Between Calgar’s updated Terminator plate, the long-awaited return of the Victrix Honor Guard, and a new Sicarius sculpt, Ultramarines fans have plenty to celebrate. Even if these models don’t immediately reshape the Warhammer 40K meta, they’re a massive win for the hobby side of the game.

It’s been a while since the Ultramarines felt truly refreshed, and this release could mark the start of something bigger for the faction.
