For an army that hasnโt received its own codex in the 10th Edition of Warhammer 40K, the Night Lords are doing surprisingly well between the tabletop and the lore.
While they might not get the same representation on the tabletop as their Chaos-dedicated brethren, recent releases make it clear that the Night Lords are becoming one of the darlings of the Chaos Undivided book. Fans of flaying, terror, and lightning-bolt-covered power armor have plenty to celebrate.
Night Lords fans are some of the most dedicated in the hobby. Many first fell in love with the Aaron Dembski-Bowden Night Lords Omnibus and its mustache-twirlingly evil protagonists, but getting that same feeling onto the tabletop was another matter. Some flat rules โ especially in 10th Edition โ made it difficult to fully lean into the aesthetic.
That changed quickly with the release of the Nemesis Claw Kill Team.
Nemesis Claw was the first truly Night Lords-specific release across all systems in years (the Horus Heresy line gave them some attention, but this was different). With a unique 10th Edition ruleset that performed well, Games Workshop avoided releasing just another batch of โLegionaries with winged helmets.โ
But Games Workshop didnโt stop there.
Rumors had circulated for months about a Raptor-themed kill team, but most assumed the Eighth Legion wouldnโt be in the spotlight again anytime soon. After all, several Chaos Legions still lack their own models. Apparently, that didnโt matter to the game developers.

The latest Kill Team preview proves that the Night Lords are far from done with their resurgence. While the new models donโt seem to feature the iconic winged Nostraman skull on their pauldrons, they are still unmistakably Night Lords through and through.
Why Night Lords Are Becoming a Fan-Favorite Chaos Legion
And for those who paint just a few too many lightning bolts on their armor, thereโs even more to look forward to: the Night Lords are also getting a brand-new Black Library book. This release is likely aiming to recapture the magic of one of the best trilogies Games Workshop has ever published.
One way or another, itโs a fantastic time to be a Night Lords fan. Now, letโs just hope their 10th Edition detachment rule gets fixed soon.
