Warhammer 40K News: Space Marines Get a Major New Release

Discover the latest Warhammer 40K Space Marines release, including new models, rules updates, and what it means for players on the battlefield.

So much for the Year of Chaos. But who can really be mad about the announcement that new Assault Terminators are on the way?

Warhammer 40K, as a game, hobby, and universe, lives and dies by the success of Space Marines. Whether it’s the lore, the models, or the competitive scene, Space Marines are the backbone of Games Workshop’s success.

Without Space Marines, Warhammer wouldn’t be the cultural giant it is today. They are the most played faction across nearly every edition, the main characters of the biggest games and TV shows, and—let’s be real—they get more love from Games Workshop than most other armies.

Sorry, Xenos fans.

The “Year of Chaos” That Wasn’t

Games Workshop may have branded this the Year of Chaos, but it hasn’t exactly felt that way. Sure, Chaos has gotten some attention—new codexes for each of the traitor legions, new models, and some strong narrative beats—but Space Marines continue to steal the spotlight.

Recently, we’ve seen new detachments for Imperial Fists, Raven Guard, and Salamanders, with Iron Hands and White Scars still to come. On top of that, each of these Chapters received new models for their iconic characters, and the sculpts have been very well received across the community.

But the love doesn’t stop there.

Ultramarines Still in the Spotlight

Of course, the Ultramarines haven’t been left out. Recently, we’ve seen refreshed models for Marneus Calgar, Cato Sicarius, and the Victrix Honor Guard. While some players question why these characters needed another round of new sculpts so soon after previous releases, there’s no denying that the new models are crisp, dynamic, and highly detailed.

All of this reinforces a simple truth: Space Marines run the setting. Keeping them relevant with new releases is essential for both the lore and the business side of Games Workshop.

The Return of Assault Terminators

That brings us to the star of the show: the brand-new Assault Terminators and their accompanying box set.

For the entirety of 10th Edition, Assault Terminators have felt like an afterthought. While regular Terminators got some love in the launch box for the edition, Assault Terminators were left behind. Considering they are supposed to represent some of the most elite fighters in the Imperium, the lack of attention was noticeable both on the tabletop and in the model range.

Now, at least one problem has been fixed. The new sculpts for Assault Terminators are immediately some of the best-looking models in the entire Space Marine lineup. They’re bulkier, more intimidating, and loaded with details that make them stand out as the Emperor’s chosen. Fans are already speculating whether these models might signal updated rules as well—perhaps even the return of 3-damage Thunder Hammers?

The New Assault Terminator Box

Beyond the models themselves, Games Workshop has revealed one of the strongest Space Marine box sets of the edition. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Two 5-man squads of new Assault Terminators

  • One 5-man squad of standard Terminators

  • A Chaplain in Terminator Armor

  • A Terminator Ancient

It’s a stacked lineup that provides both incredible models and serious value in terms of points for your army. While the box will likely carry a hefty price tag, it’s almost certain to be worth the investment for collectors and competitive players alike.

If you’re looking to expand your First Company or start a Dark Angels Deathwing force, this box is shaping up to be a must-buy.

Final Thoughts

While Chaos fans may feel shortchanged in what was supposed to be their year, the reality is that Space Marines remain the face of Warhammer 40K. With new detachments, character models, and now a full wave of Assault Terminators, it’s clear Games Workshop knows exactly where its bread is buttered.

Love them or hate them, Space Marines keep the setting alive—and these new releases prove they’re not slowing down any time soon.
